By a clean frontage, we mean that there are no ribs or hemlines on the front, rather it’s a continuous flow of fabric uninterrupted by any structural features. FREQUENTLY OPERATED BLINDS: During the first few weeks after installation, some European roman blinds need to be ‘trained’ manually to form their folds. So if you’re looking for a shade that cascades up and down in neat crisp folds from day one, or is operated quite frequently, you may have to pause and reconsider relaxed roman blinds.
But, if you’re that decor enthusiast who loves to spend a moment or so chopping your throw pillows to the right degree each day, this little exercise will pass as one meaningful room-stylizing moment. And, over time, the fabric will attain the ‘memory’ of its creases, thereby requiring no manual assistance to form its folds flawlessly.
Alternatively, plan to position your relaxed shade within the window’s recess and mount curtains as an overtreatment so that your relaxed shades serve as a stationary, decorative feature and the curtains can take up the more functional role of providing privacy and light control.
MASCULINE SPACES: In masculine design styles that lean towards raw finishes, straight lines, and non-frilly details, the soft swags of the European roman blinds may look slightly out of place. Therefore, we do not recommend relaxed roman shades to be used for small windows with widths narrower than 75 cm, and advise choosing soft, pliable fabrics.
How to Measure Length & Width for Relaxed Roman Blinds
If you ask a professional designer what is the one inevitable element that makes a made-to-measure roman blind a true showstopper - the answer most likely will be ‘right measurements’. Regardless of what fabric is chosen, an ill-fitting blind which is either too sloppy or too skimpy will derail the decor. So, getting the measurements right is key to maximising the aesthetic value of your blinds.

But before you rush to pick the measuring tape, we’d advise you to decide on the mounting position of the shade. Because, the method of measuring varies as per the style of mounting. Choose between the inside mounting position and the outside mounting position for your blinds so that you can measure accordingly.
In the inside mounting position, the blind is fixed within the window’s frame/trim. In the outside mounting position, the blind is fixed outside the frame, on the wall or ceiling above the window. In addition to that, here is a consideration to be made specific to when measuring for your relaxed roman blinds:
When fully rolled down, European roman blinds look just like the regular flat/plain fold blinds; the swag is formed only as the blind is lifted. While this is the default construction of all relaxed shades, some clients may want to show off the scalloped detail at all positions - even when the shade is fully lowered. To achieve this, the length specified in the order needs to be longer.
